The Writer's Retreat was designed to provide a peaceful escape from civilization and create inspiration. Situated along Mead's Quarry in Knoxville, TN, the retreat was designed using simple geometries and meshing them together in a complex form. The building is intentionally situated facing south to allow for outdoor spaces to receive maximum daylighting while indoor spaces receive only the necessary amount. Shading in the outdoor spaces also helps alleviate direct heat gain during summer months.
